Facebook Privacy: “Default Settings” Is Not Always The Translation of “Good Privacy” :-)
Did you know that your facebook default privacy settings may let your profile be not as private as you taught?
Indeed, by default, you give access to some information in your profile not only to your friends but also to your networks.
What does it means?
It means that, for instance if you are in the “France” network just like Marcel Proust, by default you authorize around 2,159,600 people today to see:
- your profile,
- your basic info,
- your personal info,
- your status updates,
- photos tagged of you,
- video tagged of you,
- your friends,
- wall posts,
- your education info and work info.
You can modify these settings at the following address:
http://www.facebook.com/editaccount.php?networks#/privacy/?view=profile
But even if you change these default settings, people can still see about the same information if they share the same application.
So you will also have to modify, if you feel concerned, the application privacy settings. You can do that at the following address:
http://www.facebook.com/privacy/?view=platform#/privacy/?view=platform&tab=other
So a man forewarned, a man forearmed!!!
