Facebook News: I Know Who You Are
If I was Homer Simpsons on the following picture, I said “if”, would I universally be seen as Marc Zuckerberg relative or at least as we know each other?
It might be the case in a really near future!! Everybody will soon be able to know and to see how anybody looks like! (I hope I will be able to fake all the pictures of me on the web so that I’ll look really pretty)
Indeed, according to some sources (see in sources list), an integration of iLife’09, a new Apple’s product, functionalities within facebook might be shortly possible.
For instance, James Holland announced in is article from the 6th of January:
“Apple kicked off 2009 with a bang today, introducing iLife 09…The cream of the crop is the new version of iPhoto, packing some seriously slick technology including face detection, geotagging, Flickr and Facebook integration.”
or, the same day in an article from Wilson Rothman:
“…Facebook and Flickr support: Automatically upload your pics straight to your service of choice. (So glad to hear that one!) iPhoto will even grab Facebook image tags and use them in Faces. Flickr geo tags can be used in Places.”
What Apple says about iPhoto’09:
”…iPhoto ’09 introduces Faces — a new feature that allows you to organize your photos based on who’s in them. iPhoto uses face detection to identify faces of people in your photos and face recognition to match faces that look like the same person. That makes it easy for you to add names to your photos. And it helps you find the people you’re looking for — even in the largest photo libraries.”
“…even in the largest photo libraries.”This sounds great …but at the same time and according to some people it might be used at less funny ends.
Facebook has already been used in some cases to arrest people (example), to deliver official court papers (example) , …
Might it not be dangerous to simultaneously let coexist, in the same framework, two usually different channels such as ludicity and legal?
Some good questions are pointed from dnfcorp for instance in relation with the NewZealand police “Facebook Arrestation”:
“If facebook had facial recognition, would police departments everywhere add crime photos and the like in aims of getting a quick recognition? (People are already getting served via facebook, it’s not too far off.”
Might it become a new delivery channel of official papers?
…Hoping that the funniest side will override all the others… For a funnier future!
